Electrolysis
Electrolysis
Electrolysis was invented by Dr. Charles Michel in 1875. He used electrolysis to remove irritating ingrown eyelash hairs. With over a century of well-proven safety and effectiveness, today’s computerized electrolysis remains the only permanent hair removal procedure that is recognized by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and AMA (American Medical Association). We provide the best Electrolysis service in Bloomfield, CT
Gentle Touch CT: Expert Electrolysis & Permanent Hair Removal
Professional Hair Removal: Galvanic, Thermolysis, Blend Techniques
Achieve Lasting Results with Galvanic, Thermolysis, and Blend
The three methods used in the Electrolysis are Galvanic, Thermolysis, and Blend. All three methods involve inserting a small needle into the hair follicle. A very fine flexible sterile probe or needle (about the same thickness of your hair) is inserted into the follicle, which is the tiny, natural opening out of which the hair grows. The skin is not punctured or harmed, as the probe is very thin. Once the probe is inserted properly down into the follicle, a burst of the specifically timed and measured current is discharged to destroy hair cells. The probe is then withdrawn and the hair is lifted out of the follicle with sterile forceps (tweezer).
Electrolysis does require a series of treatments over a period of time. The goal of Electrolysis is to damage the follicle to the point that it will no longer be able to produce hair. This requires each hair to be treated multiple times using either heat, chemical reaction, or both. We use only sterile disposable probes and tweezers for your protection. We use a dry heat sterilizer, which provides the highest level of medical sterilization. Depending on the size of the hair, different probe sizes are used. In most instances, you should not feel the hair being pulled out during the procedure. The hair slides out easily if properly treated. We adhere to the recommended national standards for sterilization procedures established by American Electrology Association in conjunction with the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
We use the Apilus technology which is advanced electrolysis equipment offering hair removal treatments that are more efficient, more comfortable, and more rapid than any other epilation technology. Thanks to its powerful, computer-controlled system, Apilus gives the highest degree of precision and control. Apilus is also equipped with a unique “tolerance test”, which allows the unit to be adjusted and adapted to your level of sensitivity to the current. Apilus high-precision mechanism uses pulses as little as one-thousands of a second, which assures incomparable comfort.

Electrolysis FAQs
Does Electrolysis hurt?
You do not feel the insertion of the probe. The sensation of the current is a slight heat or feels like a little pinch. Every person has a different sensation for the treatment. Certain areas of the body are more sensitive to the treatment than others. Most of our clients experience minimal discomfort. If a client is treated near or during their period they may experience more sensitivity. A form of topical anesthetic can be used to minimize the discomfort. It is applied 30 minutes before the procedure and may be purchased in our office.
What areas can be treated?
All hair bearing areas of the face and body, except inside the ears and nostrils. Popular treatment areas include hairline, eyebrows, upper lip, cheeks, chin, neck, back, underarms, chest, breasts, arms, abdomen, bikini, thighs, legs, feet, and toes.
How long will it take?
Electrolysis requires a series of treatments. To see the improvement you must commit yourself to regular visits for a period of about six months up to two years, or even more, depending on the following factors:
Hair
- The amount of hair to be treated
- The quality of the hair
- The depth of the hair
- The hair cycle
Skin
- Moisture and texture
- Reaction to the treatments
Tolerance
Frequency of treatment
The length of each appointment depends on the amount of hair you want to remove and whether you have had previous electrolysis treatments. Usually, treatments start off minimally with 15 minutes, but, depending on previous hair removal methods and the desired treatment area, may last up to one hour or more. Initially, the Electrologist will schedule a consultation where a thorough health history assessment will be conducted to fully understand any issues that may or may not exist. Then, after fully explaining Electrolysis, and tailoring a treatment plan according to your previous hair removal methods and the goals you have set for yourself, a treatment may actually take place at that point.
It must be stressed that commitment and consistency are key elements to the success of the recommended treatment plan and is the utmost requirement in my practice. If a client continually pushes back appointments, it would only be a waste of time to continue potentially ineffective treatments.
The word “permanent” should not be confused with “immediate”. For permanent removal of active hair follicles, a series of treatments is required over a period of time. It is important that the treatments are done on a regular basis so that the cells never have the chance to regain their strength. Weekly or bi-weekly sessions are the most effective, determined by area size and the number of hairs. For the most effective treatment, you should adhere to your recommended schedule. Clients will notice their hairs becoming finer, lighter in color, and taking longer to re-grow – visits becoming shorter in duration and spaced further apart.
How much will it cost?
Most of the time, the biggest expense for electrolysis is in the first 2-3 months. The cost of each session is based on 15-minute increments. When considering the cost, take into consideration the cost in dollars and the time you spend on temporary methods, which will continue forever. The cost of razors, waxes, and creams can add up over a lifetime. Much of your time is also spent tediously tending to the problem of removing unwanted hair. Electrolysis is by far the most cost-effective solution that will pay off in the long run by saving money and time. Electrolysis is an investment in yourself, that will continue to yield life-long benefits and satisfaction. Make a commitment to yourself for yourself!
Are there side effects from Electrolysis?
There are no permanent side effects related to electrolysis treatments. Depending on skin type sensitivity, some clients may experience some redness, slight swelling, and mild tenderness immediately following treatment which typically resolves itself within an hour or two of treatment. Antibiotic creams, calamine lotion, Vitamin E, and aloe help heal the skin quicker. Staying out of the sun and using sunblock is recommended for a few days. Keeping the skin clean and hands-off is helpful as are avoiding moisturizers and any exfoliating creams. Post-treatment care will be discussed with you by your Electrologist during the consultation. We are also available for questions post-treatment, just give us a call or send us an email.
Who can get electrolysis treatments?
Electrolysis is safe and the only permanent hair removal process that can be applied to anyone, regardless of age, skin type, or hair type (unlike Laser)! It works on blond, red, gray, or light-colored, or light-textured hair. Dark Skin – Electrolysis works on all skin types, including people with dark skin.
Mature Skin – Unwanted hair on the body or face does not necessarily indicate a hormonal imbalance. Prevalent in a large number of perfectly normal women, especially as they get older, excessive facial or body hair is frequently an inherited characteristic common to either specific families or races. Most can trace the beginnings to the onset of puberty, pregnancy, or menopause.
Teens – Teens are particularly prone to develop hair where it’s unwanted during the glandular changes connected with the onset of puberty. If you are developing superfluous hair or are a concerned parent, contact us today! If under 18, need parental approval to receive treatment.
There are two exceptions, however, where electrolysis cannot be performed:
- Those who wear pacemakers
- Contagious skin conditions
Can electrolysis treatments be performed during pregnancy?
Electrolysis can be performed during pregnancy, but we suggest that you seek the advice of your physician during the last 3 months.
Can hairs be removed from moles?
State licensing laws and/or some general liability insurance policies may prohibit the removal of hair from moles. In cases where neither of the above restrictions exists, your electrologist may require written approval from your physician.
Why should I choose Electrolysis over other types of hair removal?
Although there are many reasons to choose electrolysis over other temporary methods such as tweezing, shaving, or waxing, there is one reason which stands above all the others, it is permanence.
Electrolysis is the only method of permanent hair removal, per the FDA. Temporary methods such as waxing, tweezing, threading, etc. will create ingrown hairs and hair will grow back heavier, coarser and the initial area will expand as the hair is being pulled from the hair follicle.
The germinating cells creating each hair are located at the base of the follicle. Those temporary methods pull the hair out but do not harm or kill the cells creating the hair. In fact, usually, the hair follicle will start to twist the bottom of the root so as to anchor the hair from being pulled out. This creates a “distorted” hair follicle and instead of the hair going into the skin straight, it becomes curved like a “J” or “S.” It will also go down deeper into the skin and become tougher. This is evident by ingrown hairs or bumps as the hair under the skin tries to get out. Electrolysis can eliminate these hairs and, most times, the skin returns to a healthier look without all the irritation from the temporary methods. Other temporary methods such as depilatories and bleaching creams often irritate the skin from their chemical compounds as does shaving.
Temporary methods also require frequent, time-consuming maintenance. Skin irritations, ingrown hairs, discoloration, and scarring may result. These methods may contribute to an increase in hair growth activity. By using the electrolysis method, you will see that unwanted hair will be removed safely, and permanently. If you feel that unwanted hair is in any way a nuisance or an embarrassment, then electrolysis is definitely for you!
What do I do about hairs between appointments?
Do not pluck, shave, or wax! These methods can irritate the skin and may cause ingrown hairs, which can be painful and as unsightly as the hair itself. You will still be left with the hairs that you want to be rid of. Temporary methods can oftentimes exacerbate the problem, and compound the hair growth.
After initial treatment, there may be some hair remaining that was not removed, either due to the time constraints or because some hairs were not out at that time. Just trim the hair with a pair of small scissors, making sure to allow enough time for the hair to grow a bit prior to your next appointment. What is not seen, cannot be treated. Bleaching is fine as long as you bleach the hair a week before the appointment.
Hair growth causes and why me?
After wondering how electrolysis works, most people want to know the causes. There are various causes for each individual and they include: heredity, glandular or hormonal imbalances which include pregnancy, medication reaction, certain medical conditions, stress and emotional state, high or low weight and then the temporary method being used will create more hair and also make the area expand from the hair problem you first started with. It is important to note that once a light, fine hair changes to a dark, terminal hair, the color and texture will remain in that condition even after the cause has been diagnosed and corrected. Only Electrolysis can kill that unwanted hair.
Some people also desire electrolysis for purely cosmetic reasons, such as changing their hairline or shaping the eyebrows, being rid of underarm hair, or leg hair.
Electrolysis for PCOS
We have licensed electrologists who specialize in successfully treating clients with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and endocrine disorders that cause unwanted hair problems. We want all women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and other endocrine disorders to be aware that their unwanted hair problems are easily treatable and not hopeless. We work closely with local physicians to help you attain complete permanent hair removal, emotional well-being, and self-esteem. Many PCOS clients through doctor’s referrals have attained tremendous results and personal satisfaction.
What is PCOS?
It is a genetic hormonal disorder. PCOS symptoms occur because of the body’s inability to process insulin correctly, creating an excess of insulin and glucose in the body. This results in an imbalance with other hormones so the body produces more male hormones, preventing ovulation. The most common symptom of PCOS is excess facial and/or body hair growth.
PCOS has four main features:
- Skin and hair changes related to testosterone ( oily skin, acne, loss of scalp hair )
- Irregular periods, and sometimes, difficulty becoming pregnant
- Problems with weight
- Metabolic abnormalities, principally high insulin levels
PCOS affects each woman differently, so someone with PCOS may or may not have all of the symptoms listed. One of the useful resources is the website www.pcosupport.org where you can get more information or take a quiz to determine if you have PCOS.

Laser Hair Removal
If you are not happy with shaving, tweezing, or waxing to remove unwanted hair, laser hair removal may be an option worth considering. Body depilation is one of the most common practices for aesthetics. But many times, we do not know the appropriate measures that we must use to perform proper hair removal. Although shaving and waxing hair are often unpleasant, more and more men and women worldwide are undergoing this aesthetic ritual with the help of razors, wax, creams, and lasers. According to the numerous scientific studies carried out on the subject, one of the main reasons why many continue to join this practice is aesthetics. But this is not the only reason.
Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that removes or delays hair growth in any area of the body. It uses a laser with precision that attacks the hair follicles, which are the root of the hair, without affecting the surrounding areas. The effect is that future hair growth is permanently inhibited or delayed for a considerable time.
Laser hair removal is the safest and most effective method to remove unwanted hair, saving all the time and cost of traditional hair removal. Microneedling
Microneedling
Microneedling is the perfect non-surgical solution for reducing fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and stretch marks. A safe and revolutionary process using automated Collagen Induction Therapy to restore a youthful glow to your skin. We provide the best microneedling service in Bloomfield, CT.
How does Microneedling work?
This method works through natural skin healing. This process allows for increasing elastin and collagen production. Specifically, this procedure makes micro-punctures to generate micro-injuries. Therefore, the skin is injured, and it activates the self-repair mechanisms. After this, cells start to regenerate and increase collagen production.
For the first session, peeling is applied to prepare the skin. It is essential to consider that every case is particular, so every person needs and individualized treatment. The peeling treatment varies depending on the skin type. Usually, sessions last 60 minutes, and it is not painful.
For the next step, pores will be dilated, and then the active ingredient will be applied to the area to be treated. The product is not spread on the whole face, only on the specific zone to work. Later, the procedure is repeated in the following area. Due to the treatment, your face may turn blotchy and feel dry and tight, however, this is normal and after some hours, it will disappear.
What to expect from Microneedling?
The expectations of a microneedling procedure might vary depending on the user’s condition and the doctor. In this technique, the skin punctures only penetrate the surface, so they do not go too deep into the skin. After the procedure, the specialist will apply a topical healing solution. The medical professional may suggest additional treatments, depending on the current skin conditions, needs, and client goals.
At Gentle Touch CT we will always ensure that you receive the best care to obtain the results you want, but above all, with the necessary protection and well-being measures. Call (860) 216-6225 to make your appointment or email [email protected]. Initial consultation is free! Contact us to know more about our microneedling service in Connecticut.
Chemical Peel
Chemical Peel
Underneath your skin is a brighter, smoother, and more refined complexion waiting to be revealed, and chemical peels can help bring that out instantly. Whether you want to reduce discoloration caused by sun damage, clear up breakouts or smooth away the look of wrinkles, chemical peels are proven to improve your skin in more ways than one noticeably. If you have any questions about the Chemical Peel service in Bloomfield, CT. Do not hesitate to contact us in Connecticut.
What is a Chemical Peel?
Chemical peels are used to treat wrinkles, skin color changes, and scars, usually on the face. It can be performed alone or in combination with other cosmetic procedures. A deep chemical peel provides more impactful results, but recovery is slower. Our specialist will determine if a light, medium, or deep chemical peel is needed.
The benefits of chemical peels are designed to make the skin on a client’s face and neck have a smooth and radiant appearance. Chemical peels are some of the most popular facial treatments and provide results without any downtime. A chemical peel involves no invasive surgical procedures, anesthetic, or lasers. The peel can be customized for a client’s skin condition to provide the desired results and uses a variety of natural ingredients. Peels are a simple and affordable way to maintain a client’s skin with a luxurious and enjoyable treatment.
How Does It Work?
A chemical peel is designed to remove the top layer of a client’s skin using natural ingredients and an acid, like glycolic acid. There are three main types of peels: deep peels that penetrate deep and have a long peel time, medium peels that penetrate less deep, and light peels that only penetrate the very surface of the skin for the shortest peel time.
The dead skin cells are removed, leaving the skin fresh and rejuvenated. Young skin is exposed on the face and neck, giving the face a glowing appearance after the chemical peel. Scars and discoloration can have a reduced appearance with regular chemical peels. The skin grows back over time and will eventually become dull.
Once a peel level is determined and applied, based on needs and skin condition, the skin appears tight and lifted for some time after the treatment. Clients will enjoy even tones and textures and a reduction in hyperpigmentation and dark spots on the skin. Acne can be treated, as well as acne scars, with different types of peel treatments, providing clients with glowing and exfoliated skin. The skin can appear younger by removing sun damage and fine lines with treatment. Clogged pores and enlarged pores can also be treated.
Before Treatment
During the consultation, clients should inform their treatment specialist if they have a history of viral infections like cold sores. Clients with facial scarring should also discuss this during the consultation. A client taking skin medications should inform the skincare specialist, as they may be asked to avoid these medications for some time.
How will my skin look after a chemical peel treatment?
Professional peel side effects can include redness, dryness, itching or irritation as well as swelling, tightness, peeling or scabbing. With 2-3 days, skin may look flaky or tan as the outermost surface peels off to make room for more radiant, new skin. You may also notice temporarily more pronounced discoloration or age spots as they rise to the skin’s surface before getting sloughed away. Your skin is more delicate after a peel, so avoid direct sun exposure.
What should I do after a chemical peel treatment?
It is important to moisturize after a chemical peel. The fresh skin is sensitive, and the skin may still be peeling following the treatment. Moisturizers will not prevent the peeling, as it is part of the chemical peel process, but will soothe the skin and help to replenish the loss of temporary moisture in the skin. Clients will want to avoid harsh moisturizers and go for a neutral moisturizer that is light on additives.
Clients should start with a minimal amount of moisturizer following their treatment and work their way up to their normal portion. Clients should spread the moisturizer thinly and avoid unnecessary scrubbing or rubbing of the skin. By the end of the week, a client can comfortably follow their normal moisturizer routine.
What Other Care Should I Take After Chemical Peels?
Clients should avoid direct sun exposure after a chemical peel. Sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher is a must for peel clients. Sunscreen should be worn any time a client may come in contact with the sun, and this includes time spent driving in the car and on overcast days.
Clients should also avoid rubbing or massaging the treated skin for several days. The skin will peel, but clients should refrain from picking or peeling the skin manually. Clients with long hair may want to wear their hair back to avoid irritation.
Can I Wear Makeup?
When a client can begin wearing cosmetics will depend on the depth of the exfoliation. In general, clients should avoid most makeup products for at least seven days following their chemical peel treatment. The skin needs time to heal, so only moisturizer and sunscreen should be worn to protect the skin for several days.
Proper Post-Peel Skin Care:
You can minimize your skin’s downtime afterward by practicing these expert tips:
Wash your face with cool water. Warm or hot water might not feel as good as cool or cold water, which can help soothe post-peel sensations.
Moisturize and hydrate. Since peels can temporarily compromise your skin’s protective barrier, it’s important to reinforce that barrier with a medium-to-thick moisturizer. Also, drink more water to help avoid dehydration, which could make your skin feel tight.
Apply sunscreen with SPF30 or more. Your skin is more delicate after a peel, so avoid direct sun exposure, which can lead to even more visible signs of skin aging. If you must be exposed, use a Broad Spectrum physical sunscreen.
Avoid strenuous workouts, dry saunas and steam rooms. Increased blood circulation to the face can intensify warming, tingling, itching, redness or other uncomfortable side effects on freshly peeled skin. Skip such activities on the day you use a peel.
Don’t over-exfoliate. Peels are maximum-strength exfoliants, so you don’t need to use a separate exfoliant (like a scrub, brush or exfoliating cleanser) within 3-4 days of your peel. Over-exfoliating can lead to more redness or sensitivity, so wait until your skin feels up to it.
Once your skin feels “back to normal” after a peel, it’s generally considered OK to resume your normal skincare regimen. For more personalized advice, ask our professional skin therapist how to incorporate peels into your lifestyle. At Gentle Touch CT we will always ensure that you receive the best care to obtain the results you want. Call (860) 216-6225 to make your appointment or email [email protected]. Skin Tags
- Skin tags are a common skin condition resembling a small piece of soft, hanging skin. Derived from skin cells and composed of loose fibrous tissue they can present as either single or multiple.
- They are often hyper-pigmented color makes them more obvious and, although they are harmless, they can be irritating and, cosmetically, unattractive.
- They are found on perfectly healthy people and are not directly associated with any other major medical conditions, although medical experts believe that genetics play a huge role in skin tags. Skin tags are also common amongst obese people, pregnant women, and individuals with diabetes.
- Most frequently, skin tags are found on the neck where friction from necklaces, collars, and scarves are to blame or under the arms where friction from arms rubbing and seams from clothes are the initiating factor. They get caught on jewelry or caught on your clothing/scarves.
- Skin tags become particularly irritating when they develop in sensitive areas such as under the breasts or around the eye, even presenting between eyelashes and affecting vision.
- Our treatments result in immediate removal of the tag and can take only seconds depending on the size. The process of skin tag removal is quick, easy, and effective and is safe to use in all areas – even between eyelashes.
- However, skin tag removal is a skill requiring much dexterity as well as a high level of experience and expertise.
- It is important to choose a highly qualified professional to perform the intricate and precise work involved in skin tag removal. Working close to the eye and other areas of high risk demands a steady hand, experience, thorough training, and an excellent standard of hygiene and sterilization.

Restrictions
- Retinol/Retin-A must be discontinued 7 days prior to the procedure. (It will cause the skin to bleed).
- Injections (Botox, Radiesse, JuvaDerm, Voluma, etc.) must be done 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after the procedure.
- Chemical peels and laser treatments may not be done within 60 days before or after the procedure.
- The use of Latisse® must be discontinued at least 3 months prior to your eyeliner procedure (it creates an inflammatory response, causes excess bleeding, and prohibits the eyeliner from healing well).
- Sunburned or Suntanned skin is damaged skin and therefore will cause excessive bleeding. We CANNOT work on sunburned or suntanned skin.
- You cannot expose the area to the sun for 30 days before or after the procedure.
- Do not schedule this procedure within one week prior to a water vacation.
- Stay out of steam rooms, saunas, hot yoga, swimming pool, etc. for one week following the procedure.
- Avoid working out or sweating for 1-week post-procedure. (sweat will prevent pigment from healing into the skin)
- Avoid alcohol and caffeine 1 day before the procedure to minimize any oozing, bleeding, or swelling.
- Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen, niacin, fish oil, or vitamin E 3 days prior to the procedure unless medically necessary.
All semi-permanent cosmetic procedures are multi-session processes. An initial application is incomplete until after a follow-up appointment, which must be scheduled approximately 4-6 weeks after your initial appointment. There is no additional charge for the follow-up appointment after your initial application as long as it is performed within 8 weeks of the initial application.
While your skin heals, be prepared for the color intensity of your procedure to be significantly larger, sharper, brighter, or darker than what is expected for the final outcome. This is a normal and expected result of the application and healing process. The healing process will take a number of days to complete, depending on how quickly the outer layer of your skin exfoliates and new skin regrows to take its place. Since delicate skin or sensitive areas may swell slightly or redden, some clients feel it best not to make social plans for a day or two following any procedure.
Policies
In order to provide all of our clients with great service and the best experience, our policies are the following:
The client only in the procedure room
Though a friend or family may accompany you to your appointment, we have learned it is best that they do not stay in your procedure. It is important the expert is able to have their full focus on you, the client. Friends and family tend to be a distraction for both the client and the expert.
Children, toddlers, and babies
Though we love children, toddlers and babies, we must kindly ask that you do not bring them with you to your appointment. Unfortunately, they are a distraction to the artist. Thank you for your understanding.
Cancellation policy
Micropigmentation is a time-intensive service. In booking your appointment, we are reserving a designated amount of time specifically for you. We require a 50% deposit in order to reserve this time for your appointment. If you need to cancel for any reason, we require that you cancel at least 24 hours prior to the start of your appointment time so that we may be able to offer this time to another client. If your appointment is canceled with less than 24 hours, notice (or in the case of a no-show), you will still be charged the full price of your scheduled service.
Follow-up appointments
There is no charge for the follow-up appointment to a new/initial procedure when it is done within 8 weeks of the initial procedure. However, in the case of a cancellation with less than 24 hours, notice, or a no-show, the follow-up is considered forfeited and any following appointments will be charged as a touch-up appointment.
Tardiness
Please plan to arrive at Gentle Touch 15 minutes prior to the start of your appointment. You will need to complete a consent and medical intake form. We want to make sure you have time to make yourself comfortable before the start of your appointment. Please give yourself extra time for parking. If you are late it will compromise the amount of time the expert has to spend on your procedure, which compromises your results. In the event that a client is more than 30 minutes late, the procedure may be canceled, and the full-service fee will still apply, as we are not able to sell this time to another client.
Right to refuse treatment
Though it is extremely rare, we reserve the right to refuse treatment for the following reasons:
- Undisclosed skin condition (including sunburn/suntan)
- Under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- Any behavior which, in our opinion, might compromise our ability to work safely and comfortably toward the desired results, or might disrupt other clients.
Pre-procedure Instructions
- Do not wear contact lenses during or immediately following your eyeliner procedure. Remember to bring your glasses. You may resume wearing your contact lenses as soon as your eyes return to their pre-treated condition.
- The use of Latisse® must be discontinued at least 3 months prior to your eyeliner procedure. Latisse® produces an inflammatory reaction in the skin, which causes excessive pain and bleeding. If you use Latisse®, your eyeliner will not take properly.
- Do not use other growth stimulants such as RapidLash®, or RevitaLash® for at least one week prior to or one week after your eyeliner procedure.
- Lash extensions must be removed completely before your eyeliner procedure. If you have lash extensions, we will not be able to do your eyeliner. Lash extensions pose a danger to your eyes during the micropigmentation procedure.
Micropigmentation is a process. Two or three sessions may be required to achieve the desired results. It is not uncommon to lose up to 70% of the color after the first session. Please be aware that having a procedure done while on your menstrual cycle can make you hyper-sensitive at the procedure site.
You will receive detailed aftercare instructions at the time of your procedure. Please call or email us with any other questions you may have. We look forward to seeing you soon! Contact us to know more about our Eyeliner Micropigmentation service in Connecticut.
Micropigmentation Post-treatment Care
One of the most common questions we are asked is what to expect during the healing process. While every person is different and some heal more quickly or slowly than others, here are some important aspects to consider for your Post Treatment Care. If you have any questions about the Micropigmentation Post-treatment Care service in Bloomfield, CT. Do not hesitate to contact us in Connecticut.
Micropigmentation (semi-permanent makeup) procedures are affected by the “canvas” (your skin) that they are performed on. Lifestyle, medications, smoking, metabolism, facial surgery and other procedures, and age of skin all contribute to fading. The initial application is always applied conservatively because every person’s skin is different and the final color can only be precisely determined and adjusted during a follow-up appointment after the initial application has fully healed. Because of this, the micro-pigmentation process is not complete after the initial procedure. In all cases, a follow-up appointment is required approximately 30 days after your initial application to fine-tune and ensure the best result. Though rare, infection is possible. If you see signs of infection such as persistent increased redness or swelling, fever, drainage, or oozing, contact your doctor immediately.
Post Treatment Care
- After 5-6 hours following your procedure, cleanse the area with simple soap, then immediately apply a very thin coat of post-treatment triple antibiotic ointment).
- Continue gently cleansing and applying ointment 2-3 times per day for 7-10 days (or until all scabbing/crust has come off).
- Apply ice packs as necessary to prevent or reduce swelling.
- When the area starts to flake, leave it. Do not pick, peel or pull on the skin.
- Avoid sweating such as from vigorous exercise for 1 week.
- For at least one week post-procedure or until healing is complete (whichever is longer):
- Keep your hands clean and avoid touching the affected area(s).
- Do not scrub or pick treated areas.
- Do not use peroxide or Neosporin on treated areas.
- Do not expose the area to direct sun or to tanning beds.
- Avoid exposing the area to excessive moisture or humidity, such as facials, swimming, whirlpools, saunas, steam rooms, and steamy showers.
- Contact lenses should not be worn until the swelling subsides.
- Do not use any eyelash tinting or other coloration for at least two weeks after the procedure.
- Do not use eyelash curlers during the healing process.
- Use of mascara during the healing process:
- Do not wear mascara for a few days
- Use only new unopened mascara, in order to avoid contamination and infection.
- Apply mascara only to the tips of the eyelashes
- Avoid Retin-A, moisturizers, glycolic acids, exfoliants, and anti-aging products at all times (not just during healing) on all micro pigmented areas. These can cause pigments to fade and lighten prematurely.
- Avoid tanning beds, sun, chlorine spas, and pools, soap, and chemicals (including skin cleansers, makeup removers, alpha hydroxyl creams, and tooth whitening toothpaste) near the treated area until healed.
- Pigments will slowly fade over time according to metabolism, skin type, sun exposure, medication, facial surgery, and smoking. Schedule maintenance visits as needed to keep it looking fresh.
- Periodic touch-ups will ensure longer-lasting results.
Healing Schedule
If you have never had micro-pigmentation before, there are a lot of unknowns. One of the most common questions we are asked is what to expect during the healing process. While every person is different and some heal more quickly or slowly than others, here is generally what to expect. Temporary side effects from micro-pigmentation include but are not limited to redness, swelling, puffiness, bruising, dry patches, and tenderness. You should expect to lose approximately 1/3 of the initial color during the healing process. We have selected the optimal pigments for you with this in mind. In approximately six days it may appear too light. After about 10 days, the color will show more. It will appear softer when completely healed.
Effects
Day 1
The eyes will be swollen and sore, like you have been crying, with a heavier eye makeup look. For the first 3-4 days, the color is darker than it will appear when healed. Apply a light gloss of triple antibiotic ointment sparingly to the treated areas with a clean fingertip or cotton swab. Too much ointment makes the swollen area too wet. Use the ointment in the morning and evening. A third application is fine if needed but does not overuse. Clean the eyes in the evening with cool water.
Day 2
The eyelids are swollen for a few hours after waking up, still with the heavier makeup look. When you wake up, refresh the treated area with cool water. Tissue dry and re-apply ointment. The eyes will be swollen and sore but will get better throughout the day. In the evening, gently cleanse with cool water, tissue dry, and re-apply ointment.
Day 3
Swelling decreases but is not gone entirely. There is a tight feeling. The top layers of skin begin to lift away. The soreness will become less as the treated area begins to exfoliate. A rough texture appears on the skin. Use a small amount of ointment if needed.
Day 4
There is a pinching feeling. Some itching is normal as the skin begins to flake. When the eyeliner area begins to exfoliate, do not pick at it! Discontinue ointment. It will flake off with the movement of the eye.
Day 5
The color is somewhat grayish and will take a few more days to clarify to full color. The pigmented area begins to shrink and soften in size and color over the next few days. Exfoliation completes. The color will appear a bit “frosty,” but will clarify in a few days.
Day 6
The color has lightened from its initial overly-dark appearance. For the next few days, the color may now be lighter than what the final color will be.
Day 7
The final color begins to stabilize and show through. The color will continue to soften as the healing process completes.
